THE TOP 5 TRENDS FROM MILAN FASHION WEEK SPRING 2019

Everything you must know to go ahead next season.

Bottega Veneta and Gucci were missing from the show, but the big names at Milan Fashion Week still had a lot to showcase for spring 2019. Standout moments included Fendi's luxe athleisure, raver fantasy meets retro schoolgirl collection, 65th birthday of Missoni and some grand supermodel from 90’s comebacks, including Helen Christensen & Eva Herzigova at Dolce & Gabbana and Shalom Harlow at Versace.

Here is a cheat sheet to the 5 trends that were on top in Milan.

EMBELLISHMENTS

The lure of shiny appliqués, details & intricate embroidery was not lost on designers this year around at Milan fashion week and there was a design to suit every taste. Key mongers of the trend include Prada, Versace, Philipp Plein and Roberto Cavalli.

MIXED PRINTS

Besides embellishments, miscellaneous prints were just everywhere and latest Moschino collection of Jeremy Scott had it all. Think lavish headgear and painterly strokes of reminiscent of 80s couture and brash stripes. Additionally, Versace with some fun results went all-in-on power clashing-however not for the heart faint.

FISHNET

From fisherman’s netting to fishnet of all kinds have emerged as a major trend for 2019 spring. In Milan fashion week Paul Andrew, the creative director portrayed slouchy net dresses with Etro gave hats the net treatment and extra long tassels down the Salvatore Ferragamo runway.

POLKA DOT

Designers went crazy after polka dots, everywhere in the city. The classic print depicted in siren form of 50’s at Marni, Dolce & Gabbana & Fendi whilst Miuccia Prada teamed sheer polka dot dresses with contemporary shorts at her namesake show.

FANTASTIC PLASTIC

Slick dresses and coats glide into a few heavy collections, too. Cinched-in version of the style in khaki by Max Mara will need a polishing fabric and a substantial amount of confidence carry it off.  Fendi covered its plastic transparent coats in the signature F logo print that millennials have been going gaga over.

INTO THE WILD

Have animal prints become the new black? Designers at Milan thought so. Pull off Roberto Cavalli from head to toe or team up a dress by Simonetta Ravizza with fresh white sneakers for a more street friendly take for spring 2019.

PASTELS

Do not complain that we did not warn you. Pastels are here to slay it in next season as Giorgio Armani, as Alberta Ferretti, Jil Sander and many more represented the trend with poise.
